Award season is right in the corner. And predict for Oscar nominations have already started to arise.


Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy rich Asian took the summer by storm with an all-Asian cast. It was the first time since “The Joy Luck Club” released in 1993. The movie was the talk of many and it soon became a blockbuster. This is usually not the type of movie that wins an Oscar for best motion picture. However, the movie has real shot at being nominated for their costume. We are talking about dresses and gowns for designers such as Elie Saab, Versace, and Alexander McQueen just to name a few.


Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

From the universe of harry Potters books, we got a sequel for Fantastic Beast series. A dark magician, Gellert Grindelwald, who has escaped from prison, tries to gather followers for his pure-blood wizards cause. The magical creation of J.K. Rolling allowed Colleen Atwood to create ones again an award worthy wardrobe for the cast in fantastic beasts. In 2016 she won an Oscar for it, and she has won also for her design in films like Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Alice in Wonderland. She is a true legend.


Mary Poppins Returns

The new adaptation of the upcoming film Mary Poppins has been well received so far by the fashion industry. Emily Blunt was recently featured in Vogue for her portrayal of the well-known magical nanny. This movie takes place in the 1930s which allowed, Sandy Powell, the costume designer to incorporate some amazing costumes that characterize the era.


Mary Queen of Scots

Mary Queen of Scoots is a historical al movie goes down the storyline of the Scottish monarch trying to take-over the throne in possession of her cousin Elizabeth the first. With a female cast with the likes of Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan that were nominated just last year for an best actress award. The movie is sure to get some award attention. Set on the 14th century, we got the opportunity to see some majestic wardrobes created by Alexandra Byrne for the movie. In 2007 she won the price for Elizabeth: The Golden Age.


The Favourite

Another movie of an historical drama, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. The favorite tells the story of Queen Anne a weak monarch that let her friend, Lady Sarah, rule the throne for her. The arrival of Abigail, Sarah’s cousin, comes to disturb the lives of these people. With an award-winning cast and the designer Sandy Powell, the designer mention earlier, that has won already three Academy Awards for her work, the movie is a real work of art. We might this movie being nominated for more than the best costume category.
